How does couples therapy work?

The first 3 sessions I do a thorough assessment of your relationship. This helps to ensure we are working on real changes not just solving the problem of the week and to find out how well you know your partner and your relationship.

In the first session, we will talk about what brought you to couples therapy and the history of your relationship. After the first session, you will receive access to the Gottman Connect platform, where you have the option to complete an in-depth questionnaire to allow for a thorough assessment of your relationship.

In the next two sessions, I will meet with each of you individually to give you an opportunity to share thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, to learn your personal histories, and to learn your hopes and expectations for your relationship and couples therapy.

In the fourth session, we all three meet again and I share with you your extensive Gottman Relationship Report, explore strengths and areas that need work, and start the process of improving your relationship.

The length of therapy will be determined by your specific needs and goals.

Is all of this assessment really necessary?

People come to couples therapy for a lot of different reasons. Unfortunately most couples come to therapy when their relationship is no longer tenable as it is and they want help right away. Spending time on an assessment can feel like a waste when you need to feel better now. What I have found is that the assessment offers us more information up front so we can get into the real issues faster.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not take insurance at this time. I am happy to provide you with a superbill after each session in order to submit to your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits.

What are your fees?

$225 for 60 minute couples therapy

$335 for 90 minute couples therapy

$200 for 50 minute individual therapy
