My name is Julie Patyk and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in both New York and California. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master's degree in social work from Rutgers University. I specialize in couples therapy and have a breadth of experience working with pre-marital couples, newlyweds, long-term relationships, affairs, betrayals, sexual dissatisfaction, and parenting issues.
In addition to my professional experience, I have a personal practice of mindfulness, yoga, and meditation, which allows me to be fully present for each session and focus on the unique needs of each couple. I incorporate these techniques into my sessions to help couples become aware of their bodies, recognize when their nervous systems are flooded, and learn how to self-soothe.
I have extensive clinical experience that informs my work with couples, along with personal experience from my 33 years of marriage. Before starting my private practice, I worked in two community mental health agencies and two group practices providing therapy to adults and couples.
Specialized Expertise
I am trained in Level 3 of the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, a highly respected, research-based approach developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. I am also trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and combine both of these methods to help couples improve their relationships.
